Dr. Ibrahim Yusuf Abubeker is an Attending Physician in General Internal Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Brown University, where he served as Core Faculty,
Assistant Professor of Medicine, and Co-Director of the Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Program. Prior to that, he completed an Internal Medicine Residency at Hamad Medical Corporation – Weill Cornell Qatar, where he served as Chief Resident and played a pivotal role in developing the POCUS program.
Dr. Abubeker is deeply committed to improving healthcare in resource-limited settings, particularly in East Africa. During his residency and faculty tenure in Rhode Island, he was actively involved in refugee health initiatives. Passionate about medical education, he has undertaken various roles in teaching, including curriculum development.
Dr. Abubeker has a strong interest in global health and POCUS, aiming to introduce POCUS to resource-limited areas and develop programs to address healthcare disparities. His dedication to education has earned him numerous accolades, including the Dean’s Excellence in Teaching Award and the Dean’s Positive Champion for Learning Environment Award from Brown University School of Medicine, as well as the Resident Teaching Award and the Excellence in Primary Care Award during his residency at Brown University Internal Medicine Residency Program.
At Mayo Clinic, Dr. Abubeker focuses on Consultative Medicine, International Medicine, and Executive Medicine, providing exceptional care to patients with complex medical needs. He remains committed to advancing global health initiatives, fostering excellence in medical education, and delivering world-class patient care.
