Dr. Jason Chen is a current UCSF-Contra Costa Global Health fellow. Jason’s passion for POCUS is rooted in his vision of using medicine to promote social equity and intercultural exchange.

Before medical school at the University of Utah, he was a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant at la UIET in Tabasco, México, a university serving many indigenous groups, including the Ch’ol and Yokot’an people. His experiences in rural México motivated him to serve the largely migrant farmworker community of Salinas, CA during his Family Medicine Residency at UCSF-Natividad, where he was awarded the Hannon-Lauderdale-Rumbel-Santell Memorial Award for outstanding performance in 2024. During residency, he was fortunate to return to rural México on a rotation with Partners in Health México/Compañeros en Salud (CES), where his experiences in a resource-limited setting helped him see the power of POCUS to advocate for marginalized communities.

As a UCSF-Contra Costa Global Health Fellow, he is excited to teach POCUS in the San Francisco Bay Area, as well as in Peru, Taiwan, and Malawi. He enjoys utilizing his Advanced Spanish and Mandarin skills to help his patients. In his free time, he enjoys playing ukulele, board games, and learning about different immigrant experiences.
