Scott Loeliger

I completed my 35th year as a family physician in 2026. This comes after participation in global health activities since the late 1970’s working in the South Pacific and East Africa before medical school. I completed my dual degree in the UC Berkeley/San Francisco Joint Medical Program during the height of the HIV pandemic and multiple rotations at SF General Hospital. It was during my three year residency at the Natividad Medical Center I cemented my love of maternity care, broad spectrum family medicine and working in underserved communities. Prior to my coming to the Contra Costa Family Medicine Residency as faculty in the OB-GYN department I worked in rural California and Hawaii practicing birth to death medicine, carrying a pager for hundreds of deliveries and ED admissions. As a surgically trained FP/OB I hope I was an asset to the communities I served.

After “retirement” from my faculty position in Martinez I have worked for FQHC clinics such as Clinica de la Raza and Lifelong Medical Program. I spent nearly four years in Ukiah, California in the early years of the new, rural family medicine residency as principal faculty which included starting a new maternity care program for a tribal clinic in the same region. My primary goals at this point of my career are to teach, mentor and, hopefully pass along some of my learning and experiences from the wonderful privilege of being a proud, family medicine provider.
