
Enrique Leon
Instructor
Enrique is originally from Chimbote, Peru. He later lived in Wheaton, Maryland, and is currently based in Tacoma, Washington. He attended Howard University College of Medicine, completed his residency at Swedish First Hill, and pursued a fellowship in Faculty Development at the University of Washington.
His clinical interests include preventive care, point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), hospital medicine, sports medicine, obstetrics, adolescent medicine, procedural medicine, and reproductive rights. He is passionate about teaching physicians and students to care for communities in need through an inclusive, team-based approach.
He has been a full-time faculty member at the University of Washington Tacoma Family Medicine Residency for 15 years. Prior to that, he worked for 12 years in an FQHC in Tacoma.
He has been involved in POCUS training for students, residents, and faculty for over 10 years across the United States and Peru. He performs a wide range of ultrasound applications with advanced expertise in musculoskeletal imaging, nerve blocks, and obstetrics. He also leads annual global health teaching trips to Peru, bringing residents for one-month immersive learning experiences. In addition, he serves as a team physician for two high schools and teaches residents sideline sports medicine.
Outside of work, he enjoys spending quality time with his wife and college-aged children. Together, they enjoy gardening, cooking, biking, skiing, hiking, camping, fishing, playing soccer, and surfing throughout the Pacific Northwest.
