John Barrett, DNP, RDMS, RDCS, is a nationally recognized leader in point-of-care ultrasound education, clinical integration, and innovation. He was selected as Penn Medicine’s inaugural Advanced Practice Ultrasound Scholar, where he leads the development and expansion of ultrasound education and implementation for advanced practice providers across one of the nation’s premier academic health systems. He also serves as Director of Ultrasound Education for the Penn Family Medicine Residency Program, preparing the next generation of physicians to integrate POCUS into everyday clinical practice.
Clinically, John practices as a Senior Nurse Practitioner in Penn Medicine’s Emergency Department, where he combines advanced diagnostic ultrasound with the care of acutely ill and injured patients. As the department’s Advanced Practice Ultrasound Coordinator, he champions evidence-based ultrasound practice, quality improvement, and provider education.
Beyond Penn Medicine, John serves as a consultant for GE HealthCare, collaborating on the development of next-generation ultrasound technology, software, and educational initiatives. His work bridges frontline clinical care, medical education, and industry innovation, helping shape the future of point-of-care ultrasound for clinicians worldwide.
