Peter Weimersheimer

Instructor, Instructors

Dr. Peter Weimersheimer is the Founder and CEO of VTEMSONO, where he leads initiatives in point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) education, system development, and sustainable ultrasound program design. His work focuses on empowering clinicians to effectively integrate POCUS across diverse environments — particularly in resource-limited settings, pre-hospital medicine, and rural health systems.

As a Professor Emeritus of Emergency Medicine at the University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine, Dr. Weimersheimer brings over 30 years of clinical and ultrasound experience. He founded and directed the University of Vermont Emergency Ultrasound Section, the Emergency Medicine Residency POCUS curriculum, a TEE program, a regional anesthesia program, and the Medical School POCUS program.

His academic and leadership roles have included developing system-wide ultrasound credentialing, education, and practice standards, as well as serving as Vice President of Clinical Implementation and Education at Butterfly Network. His current academic and clinical interests include lung ultrasound, POCUS-guided regional anesthesia and analgesia, and expanding ultrasound use in pre-hospital and rural care.

Above all, Dr. Weimersheimer is a clinician, educator, and innovator dedicated to improving patient outcomes through the thoughtful and strategic integration of ultrasound into everyday medical practice.
