Dr. Ayalew Zewdie is an associate professor of emergency medicine and critical care at St. Paul Hospital. Millennium Medical College graduated from Tikur Anbesa specialized hospital. He received a medical doctorate from the University of Gondar.
He served as chief of academic and research affairs at Addis Ababa Burn Emergency and Trauma Hospital (AaBET), which is a branch of St Paul Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC), Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for more than 5 years. He worked as the vice academic head for the Department of Emergency Medicine and Critical Care of SPHMMC, AA, Ethiopia.
Currently, he is working as faculty at the Department of Emergency Medicine and Critical Care at African Health Science University, seconded to Kibungo Level II Teaching Hospital, Rwanda.
He served as editor-in-chief for the Pan African Journal of Emergency Medicine and Critical Care.
He completed the Ultrasound Leadership Academy Fellowship with Honors in EM Ultrasound under Ultrasound Leadership Academy. He got a certificate in Emergency Medicine from POCUS from the POCUS Certification Academy.
He has organized POCUS workshops with his colleagues in echo-guided life support, EFAST, and critical care cardiac ultrasound in Ethiopia.
He gave different trainings and workshops for his hardworking emergency medicine and critical care residents and undergraduate students on POCUS at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
He was an author for “pocket ECG interpretation guide” and co-author for “Hospital-Based Medical Disaster Response. He is involved as section editor on the African Federation of Emergency Medicine’s (AFEM) handbook. He presented his research in different conferences.
He is a teacher, researcher, leader, and clinician. He is excited to work with GUSI to spread POCUS education.
