    For GYN POCUS, this 2-day intensive hands-on training in Nairobi, Kenya covers the following:

    ✅ 1st Trimester IUP vs Ectopic – Confidently confirm intrauterine pregnancy, identify yolk sac/fetal pole, and rule out ectopic pregnancy at the bedside to drive critical disposition decisions.

    ✅ FAST (Focused Assessment with Sonography in Trauma) – Rapidly detect free fluid in the abdomen, pelvis, and pericardium in trauma and emergency GYN patients, enabling prompt life-saving interventions.

    ✅ Adnexal Assessment – Evaluate the ovaries and adnexa for cysts, masses, and sonographic signs of ovarian torsion to expedite care for acute pelvic pain.

    ✅ IUD Localization – Accurately identify intrauterine device position and differentiate normal placement from malposition, perforation, or expulsion.

    ✅ Postpartum Considerations – Assess the postpartum uterus for retained products of conception, bladder flap hematoma, and other early complications to guide urgent OB consultation.

Although I hadn’t touched an OB ultrasound in 25 years, the GUSI online and in-person OB course gave me the tools I needed. I successfully replicated their “Big 5” training in Guatemala, and every community health worker learned how to scan pregnant women for these critical findings.
