
Sarah Bain

Sarah Bain, MD, FCCM, FASA, is a board-certified cardiothoracic anesthesiologist and critical care intensivist. She attended medical school at George Washington School of Medicine in DC and completed her residency and two fellowships at Stanford University. She is an NBE Diplomate in transesophageal echocardiography and a Testamur in critical care echocardiography. She has been a member of the SCCM Ultrasound Committee and faculty at the SCCM Ultrasound course since 2017, serving as Vice Chair (2022–2023) and Chair (2023–2024). She has been a faculty teacher and lecturer for the SCCM, ATS, ASE, and WSSA societies and is currently the co-editor of the 3rd Edition of SCCM’s Critical Care Ultrasound textbook.
Since 2017, she has been Academic Faculty at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. Her hospital leadership roles have included Associate Program Director of the Anesthesia Residency, Division Chief of Cardiothoracic and Structural Heart Anesthesia, and elected medical staff representative on the Medical Executive Committee. She is now the Hospital Director of Point-of-Care Ultrasound and Chair of the Hospital POCUS Committee.
She lives in Seattle with her husband and two sons. In her spare time, she is an avid athlete, painter, and book lover.
