    • Point-of-Care Ultrasound Study Day Course Description:

    GUSI’s Point-of-Care Ultrasound Study Day is a one-day, hands-on workshop designed for doctors in training, GPs, and consultants who want to develop accurate diagnostic skills at the bedside using Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS). The course covers five core clinical applications: lung, abdomen, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), vascular access, and FAST scanning.

    The day begins with foundational ultrasound physics before moving through a structured sequence of image acquisition sessions across each application area, followed by seven dedicated practical hands-on sessions in the afternoon and morning. The day concludes with a case-based review and a Q&A session to consolidate learning.

    This course is accredited by EACCME (the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education), and its credits are widely recognized in the UK — allowing UK medical specialists to claim European CME Credits (ECMEC®s) toward their annual CPD requirements (6 CPD credits). The course director is a recognized SAM POCUS supervisor, and images acquired during the course may count toward supervised scan requirements for POCUS accreditation.

    At registration, participants also gain one year of access to online ultrasound educational materials, extending learning well beyond the study day itself.

  • Yes, you will receive both CME credits (typically 13.5-16 hours depending on the specific course) and a certificate of completion. GUSI also provides a transcript with lessons completed and test scores. For residents, we provide residency directors with a template for minimum scanning competency based on AAFP curriculum guidelines.

  • No prior ultrasound experience is required. Our courses are designed for all experience levels, from complete beginners to those seeking to advance their skills. We recommend reviewing the “Scanning Technique” videos in your complimentary online course access before attending for an optimized learning experience.

  • Your registration includes all hands-on training sessions, expert instruction, course materials, and CME credits (typically 13.5-16 hours depending on the course).
