Join us for a high-impact, hands-on Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) training designed for clinicians across all specialties looking to build practical ultrasound skills for everyday clinical care.

POCUS for Anesthesia Professionals Course Description:

GUSI’s POCUS for Anesthesia Professionals course, presented in partnership with Jefferson Healthcare, is a one-day, accelerated training designed to equip perioperative clinicians with the diagnostic ultrasound skills most relevant to daily anesthesia practice. Built for anesthesiologists, nurse anesthetists, Certified Anesthesiologist Assistants (CAAs), and other licensed clinicians involved in perioperative care, the course combines focused didactic instruction with extensive hands-on lab time across every major application area.

Participants will start with the fundamentals of ultrasound physics, transducer selection, and image optimization before progressing through a series of clinically focused modules: lung ultrasound (identifying pneumothorax, pulmonary edema, and pneumonia patterns), focused cardiac echo (pericardial effusion, ejection fraction, right ventricular strain), gastric POCUS for preoperative aspiration risk assessment, and multi-systemic volume status evaluation, including VEXUS scoring.

The course also covers image-guided procedural skills essential to anesthesia practice, including ultrasound guidance for central venous catheterization (needle visualization, guidewire and catheter confirmation, and post-procedure pneumothorax checks) and for neuraxial anesthesia (midline localization, spinal level identification, and depth/trajectory planning).

Each topic pairs a focused set of sonographic questions with dedicated lab time, ensuring participants leave with practical, applicable scanning technique — not just theoretical knowledge. The course concludes with a discussion of clinical integration topics such as coding and billing, image archiving, and quality assurance, along with a post-test to reinforce learning outcomes.

Partner:Jefferson Healthcare
Location:
Kitsap Conference Center at Bremerton Harborside

The venue is at 100 Washington Ave, Bremerton, WA 98337 — right by the Seattle-Bremerton ferry terminal, so worth noting if attendees are coming from the Seattle side.

    “The best course ever.”

The OB POCUS Essentials and Hands-on review was the best course ever.

“The perfect introductory course to give our residency faculty a head start in POCUS.”

The team at GUSI was fantastic — very knowledgeable and professional! Their POCUS workshop was clinically oriented and well-organized / well-taught by highly experienced Instructors who were engaging and patient with new learners. Our residency Faculty felt that the sessions really empowered and inspired us to do more Ultrasound scanning and get better at it. This was the perfect introductory course that our group needed to get a head start in POCUS and we look forward to working with GUSI more in the future doing Tele-Ultrasound mentorship sessions.

“The best two days ever — I’m now far more confident with MSK POCUS.”

The workshop was genuinely the best two days ever! I had so much fun and learned a lot. I used to be intimidated by MSK POCUS, but after this training, I feel so much more confident.

“I learned more in a single day than I thought possible.”

I want to learn everything! I don’t think I would’ve learned this much in a single day if it weren’t for this course. It’s been exciting, and I’m learning so much.

“This training lets us actively contribute in clinical settings, not just observe.”

This training gives us a way to actively contribute in clinical settings rather than just observing.

“One of the most rewarding experiences of my professional career.”

Participating in the GUSI Fellowship has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my professional career.

“GUSI gave me the tools to bring POCUS to community health workers in rural Guatemala.”

GUSI provided exactly the training I needed to enable me to introduce POCUS to the group of Community Health Workers (CHWs) I work with in rural Guatemala. Although I hadn’t touched an OB ultrasound in 25 years, the GUSI online and in person OB course gave me the tools I needed. I successfully replicated their “Big 5” training in Guatemala, and every CHWs learned how to scan pregnant women for these critical findings. The most thrilling moment was when we discovered that one of the CHWs herself was 13 weeks pregnant – with twins! This wouldn’t have been possible without GUSI. The CHWs and Peten Health thank you for your practical, real-world approach.

“Intensive, high-quality training that was even better than I expected — a game-changer.”

It was intensive, packed with high-quality training, and even better than I expected! We covered all systems, and I never thought I could acquire these skills so easily. Now, I don’t just see the holistic picture—I see it through the lens of ultrasound. It’s a game-changer in clinical decision-making. The workshop was packed with directly applicable knowledge and hands-on sessions with expert guidance. Every skill was mastered to ensure we could apply them in practice. I recommend it to every medical professional without a doubt!

“I feel 110% more prepared to start residency because of this training.”

This course was exceptional! I feel 110% more prepared to start residency this summer because of this training. Point-of-Care Ultrasound is amazing! I especially loved the DVT ultrasound, OB-GYN, and MSK sections.
