Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) is rapidly becoming a standard of care in clinical practice — often called the fifth pillar of the physical examination. For family medicine clinicians and educators, POCUS offers the potential to transform bedside diagnosis, clinical decision-making, and procedural care. But building real competence requires structured, hands-on training.
The FMEC has partnered with the Global Ultrasound Institute (GUSI) — founded by family physicians, for family physicians — to deliver this full-day preconference course. Designed with significant hands-on lab time, the course covers POCUS fundamentals alongside a focused set of high-value clinical applications: gall bladder, abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), cardiac echo, lung, deep venous thrombosis (DVT), and musculoskeletal (MSK) ultrasound.
This session is geared specifically toward family medicine faculty who want to build POCUS skills for their own practice and bring that expertise back to their residency programs. All registered participants receive three months of complimentary access to the GUSI learning platform — including POCUS Essentials, Pediatric Essentials, and MSK Essentials — a benefit valued at over $700.
