This new course in POCUS for OB Nursing will empower L&D and ATC nurses to use POCUS in patient care. The online portion of the course will consist of several modules from GUSI’s Master Course in POCUS. The modules include pre- and post-tests, didactic videos, and quizzes on POCUS for OB topics. We estimate the online portion will take learners about 4 hours.
The live teaching portion will consist of a combination of small group lecture and bedside teaching over the course of a month to limit crowding. Dr Jeffrey Pierce will teach the first cohort of approximately 12 L&D nurses during his Labor and Delivery shifts in December 2020 (24-hour shifts on December 7, 13, 21, 28). Dr. Pierce will also be available at other times remotely during the month to answer questions. To comply with Covid-19 safety precautions, nurses will be in small groups of 2-3 participants, will participate actively, and will have hands-on training at patient bedsides on how to produce the best and most useful scans.
GUSI’s POCUS modules are engaging, clinically-oriented, and allow you to track your performance as you go. You will leave this course with the skills and confidence to integrate POCUS into your practice and enhance the bedside experience for you and your patients.
