LV thrombus

An LV thrombus, or left ventricular thrombus, is a blood clot that forms inside the left ventricle of the heart, often a complication of myocardial infarction (heart attack) or dilated cardiomyopathy. This “cardiac ultrasound” finding is crucial as these clots can dislodge and travel to other parts of the body, leading to serious complications like stroke or systemic embolization.

Detecting an LV thrombus is a primary objective in “medical ultrasound” imaging of the heart. Echocardiography plays a vital role in visualizing these clots, assessing their size, mobility, and attachment to the ventricular wall. Early and accurate diagnosis through cardiac ultrasound is essential for timely management and prevention of severe embolic events, improving patient outcomes.
