Synovitis

Synovitis is the inflammation of the synovial membrane, the tissue lining joints, tendons, and bursae within the musculoskeletal (MSK) system. This condition leads to symptoms such as pain, swelling, tenderness, and warmth in the affected area, commonly seen in arthritic conditions like rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis. Ultrasound is a crucial diagnostic tool for synovitis, effectively visualizing synovial hypertrophy, increased vascularity (detectable with Power Doppler), and joint effusions, aiding in early diagnosis and monitoring treatment response.

Accurate identification of synovitis via medical ultrasound is essential for managing various MSK pathologies. Sonographers and clinicians utilize its real-time imaging capabilities to assess the severity of inflammation, guide aspiration or injection procedures, and track disease progression. Timely and precise ultrasound assessment of synovitis optimizes patient care in musculoskeletal and rheumatological practices.
